Hi, I'm 22 years old and a lone parent to one child who is 3 years old. Currently I receive the following benefits:
Child Tax Credit Child Benefit Income Support Housing Benefit & Council Tax Credit
What I'm confused about is how much income support I should be receiving. Currently I receive £67.50 a week but recently I read about a few premiums such as Family/Lone parent premiums and also I know people that have the same circumstances as me and receive the same benefits but receive a higher amount of Income Support and I don't understand how that works. So if you can please tell me if I'm receiving the right amount or should I be receiving more.
Unfortunately, we don't advise on family premiums. Here is some information on them.
The rules on how you are paid for your children changed a while back, so some people get extra income support and others get tax credits. It's important, therefore that you get face-to-face advice from someone who can check your benefits for you as what you can get may depend not only on your circumstances but also on when you started claiming.
