The DWP has announced the dates that the second cost of living payment of 2023 will be made.

A payment of £300 will be sent out automatically to eligible claimants between 31 October and 19 November 2023.

This follows a first payment of £301 made between 25 April and 17 May

A further £299 payment will be made in Spring 2024.

Eligible benefits
To be eligible for the £300 payment you will need to have been in receipt of one of the following benefits during the qualifying period:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Pension Credit

Universal Credit
You are eligible for the second Cost of Living Payment of £300 if you were entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of Universal Credit for an assessment period ending between 18 August 2023 to 17 September 2023.

Closed bank account , that’s where my COL has gone. Contacted UC where my payments go in , which incidentally is where the COL should go in to , they say nothing to do with them .

Any idea how or who you contact to let them know they are putting COL into a closed account and amend bank details.

Tried everywhere and everyone had no luck they say it’s a glitch in the system .

@Tony I would contact DWP asap & explain the situation, possibly beforehand I'd try get details of a different account that they can use, where you can access it without any problems, you will need to contact them directly and let them have your new temporary account details, also you can enquire about the expected payment date that you will now receive this payment.
Also contact the bank directly to find out what happened with your account & why it was cancelled/closed. Good luck

Do you get this if only on pip or not
    • Thank you for your comment. Comments are moderated before being published.
      Andy J · 6 months ago
@Thanks Patrick You have to be eligible for the COL payment by being on one of the main benefits like;- universal credit,
ESA - contribution based (employment support allowance)
Being in receipt of PIP doesn't effect the allegabillity criteria in order to receive the (COL) -  cost of living payment, it is just a case of waiting for the payment to arrive in your account, any information you may need should be available at the DWP/Gov.Co.Uk

Would be nice if disabled people received this plus pensioners especially when you have worked all  of your life but we don't count the rich get richer and the poor get poorer

@Christine Hartley I agree I live on my pension and PIP and lose out on loads of extras because I don’t get pension credit. According to the guidelines I miss out on pension credit by being about a pound over the limit
So I have to pay for glasses and dental treatment, yet if I had more coming in ie pension credit I would get help with both of these

I have not yet received the May CLP even although my application was covered by the dates required. I am receiving Pensioners Credit. I have phoned 6 times and had a letter from DWP telling me not to contact them again as they know about my claim. Still no May payment has been forthcoming! Anyone with any ideas?
