Re Support Group Descriptor ? was created by ESA Headache
I am totally confused. I am in WRAG and have appealed against being in that group as I feel that I meet the support group descriptors. My case was reconsidered and was refused and is now waiting for appeal tribunal.

What I can't understand is that I understood that in the
Manual Dexterity -Cannot either:
1/ press a button, such as a telephone keypad OR
2/ turn the pages of a book with either hand

I thought and still think that to qualify meant - can't do 1 task or both to meet the criteria, or is it that someone has to be unable to complete both tasks to meet the descriptor support group.

Am I wrong to think this?

It is an inclusive OR

- if you cannot press a button, such as a telephone, or
- if you cannot turn the pages of a book, or
- both of the above apply

The problem must exist for the majority of the time in both hands, if you are only affected in one hand, even if it is your dominant hand, you swill not score points.

Sorry Gordon, so if I were able to press a button but not turn pages of a book I would not qualify for Support group?

I think that the 'cannot either' then 'or' just stumps me

If you cannot do either one of these things you meet the Support Group descriptor - although persuading DWP/ATOS/Tribunal of this can be another matter!

Hi ESA H,

- if you cannot press a button, such as a telephone

but you can turn the pages of a book

This puts you in The SG.

if you cannot turn the pages of a book

but you can press a button, such as a telephone.

This puts you in The SG.

- if you cannot press a button, such as a telephone,

- if you cannot turn the pages of a book

If both the above apply, this also puts you in The SG.
