Hello, can anyone help me? was created by Alison
Hello,
does anyone know if Independent Assessment Services will rearrange my appointment so that someone can take me to the f2f and support me? I would need to be given several possible dates and then ring my sister and my friends to see if anyone is available. My sister, my preferred person, would need to rearrange her work and travel hundreds of miles to help me. Thus, she cannot be with me when I telephone.

I suspect that IAS will just issue an appointment.

Many thanks.

Hello PT84

I think it is highly unlikely because they can't just hold appointments open for people when you consider the numbers they are trying to manage. The better way to approach it would be to get a series of dates off your sister and/or a friend and then ring them and see if they can off you can appointment on one of your preferred dates. - telling them that you have to have someone with you. I understand it's not easy for your sister, but hopefully, she can say to work that she needs three possible dates off work. Then you would be able to confirm quickly which day it was.

Thank you.

The issue is complicated by the fact that my autism specialist psychologist is writing to IAS to ask for a reasonable adjustment- a paper based assessment- under the Equality Act as, due to my autism, I will not be able to communicate effectively with the assessor and will suffer overwhelming psychological distress / significant damage to my mental health.

I cannot ask someone to ring on my behalf until the letter has been submitted and they have been given time to respond. This may mean that my representative can only ask for a new date on Monday 7th October, the day before the current PIP appointment.

I have already had a big meltdown .
Any advice would be much appreciated, anything that comes to mind.

Many thanks.

PT

Providing this is your first appointment then you can re-arrange at any time including the day before at no fault.

Thank you, Gordon and BIS.

Do you know if I AS take any notice of specialist professional opinion or of the Equality Act?

If they don’t should I complain to my MP?

Many thanks.

Hi PT84

They do quite often listen to the advice of the specialist professional - though this is not always the case. Reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act is a more tricky area and I think many claimants would argue that they have not done this.

If they do not, yes it is always worth informing your MP. It is the only way they will know what is happening to their constituents.
