Hello,

How long do you think is reasonable for IAS to take to respond to the advice of a professional?
The advice has not yet gone in and the f2f is a week tomorrow. As per Gordon's advice, I can cancel it on Monday 7th but how many days / weeks later do I make the second appointment for?

Many thanks.

Hi PT84

In all honesty if the advice has yet to go in, I think you are going to struggle to get a response from them in time, especially as there is a weekend in the middle. I'm not saying it is impossible, but I would not count upon it - unless you have already spoken to them and they know it is coming and action things within 24 hours of receipt.

I would take the latest appointment they are prepared to give you. You need to explain a letter is on the way.

Dear PT84
IAS assume a F2F in most cases & don't even bother to read the form or letters beforehand.
I managed to have the F2F appointment changed to a paper based assessment only after my support worker repeatedly phoned IAS saying that an assessment would be severely detrimental to my health, I would be too ill to travel & I would be unable to speak or function throughout & I would be at real & documented risk of suicide & self harm. They hadn't even read the letter from my doctor saying this or read the form also stating this beforehand despite a vulnerable marker. The doctor's letter had to be faxed through urgently.
There seems to be an agonising process to go through: rearrange first appointment & apply for home visit. Home visit denied due to distressed & aggressive outbursts & 2nd appointment changed to paper based. Despite this I had a severe relapse costing the NHS a fortune.

Please ask your specialist psychologist to phone IAS directly speak to a manager & fax the letter. It would have to make a robust case that it would severely harm you & cause undue distress. The Equality Act would only come in if you had to appeal a non-attendance.
Good luck
