PIP assessment home visit cancelled was created by Sheshak
Originally sent for PIP assessment in Wakefield rang up IAS they looked at my claim and decided to give me a home visit in Leeds where I live. Assessment should have been yesterday 24/10/19 @ 9 -11am....received phone call @ 9.15 am home visit cancelled and that I now have to attend an assessment centre in Leeds. Please can someone give me any advise on what my options are...stick out for a home visit....put a complaint in & ask the reasons why they have changed their minds and why should I now attend an assessment centre. Rang DWP they have sent me back to the IAS as they are dealing with the assessments help!

Hi Susan

Putting in a complaint at this stage will do nothing, because of the time it takes to process complaints.

You can ask IAS why they have changed their mind. Could be staff sickness/staff shortages -or sometimes they deem their member of staff is at risk going to someone's home. (Not saying that is the reason in your case - just an example). Try and get to the bottom of it and ask for a home visit again. Your problem is, if you do not have the supporting evidence from a doctor - they may just say they have no availability. (I don't know whether you requested one in the first place). They do not have to offer you a home visit - but they are more likely to with a GP's letter requesting one.

Thanks for your reply..after asking for a home visit, they reviewed my case and sanctioned a home visit without me providing any supporting letters from my GP. Regarding there safeguarding due to me having BI-Polar Cyclothymia maybe this could be the reason why the home visit didn't go ahead....however saying that....they knew all this when they reviewed my case for a home visit. They should have made provisions beforehand as to send two visitors if they thought I was a liability... In addition they waited until the day of the assessment to inform me of the cancellation of the visit...(yes, staffing issues may have played a part ) however what is the difference them seeing me in my home & going to see an individual in a closed environment within there office building. I understand your point of view as per safeguarding..

Hi Susan

Do find out what the reason is, but if it is your health - they are unlikely to change their mind. You're not the only member of B&W to be battling this. It is often easier for them to do the office-based assessments as they can do more in a day because there is no need to travel.

I understand that however my point is why did they agree to a home visit after reading my case notes - then cancel the appointment & now instisting I attend an assessment centre? So I am right in saying that there is no point in putting in a complaint ...to attend the assessment centre ?even though the IAS has not made sufficient adjustments to meet my needs...is this them assuming as I have Bi- Polar that I am a liability and the visitor are unsafe?....Surly then should they not make provisions for people with complex needs and not always assume they are raving mad & will attack them....What about the equality act....is there any litriture on this web site that I can quote legislation to them & point out the discrimination that they have implied in this case? I have I have looked through the links you have sent me thanks for that.

I am already in receipt of DLA this is the migration to PIP....I have nothing to loose by putting in a complaint or have I ? I feel that their actions & total lack of proffessioliam compassion & dignity are uncomprhendle.... DWP have noted my comments in a phone call to them today however they have told me to go back to the IAS and take my issue with them!.....is it worth my while putting in complaint and if they refuse me a home visit requesting them to do a paper assessment.
