Going on holiday on PIP was created by lucy
I get high PIP daily living and mobility for OCD. I need to go abroad for a holiday. My trigger is rife in UK, but abroad I can escape my rituals while there. So I would not need a carer during the holiday.
However, in the insurance terms it say, "any trips, if you usually require a carer to assist with activities of daily living, but do not travel with a carer who is able to assist" you will not be covered.
Thing is with PIP you don't need to actually have a carer, only the need for one. I do not have a full time carer because it is not practical. They would need to be here 24/7. I muddle through with my nightmare life. Life is hell and I need to get away from my rituals.
So how would DWP/Insurance company understand this? Would DWP stop my money? I am pretty much a recluse lately as OCD so bad.
How to I deal with this.

Hi Lucy

I'm afraid part of your question is outside the remit of this forum. In terms of your holiday insurance, that is a decision you need to make yourself - but from a personal point of view, I would tell anyone going on holiday to have proper travel insurance.

With regards to the DWP - you only need to inform them if you are going on holiday for more than four weeks. If it is for more than four weeks - and you inform them, there is a chance they will ask you about it next time you have a review. A couple of members have recently reported being asked about their holidays.

Hi,

I hope that you can get away and the break helps you.

How long would your holiday be for? I ask this as I've been looking at something similar for my friend - from what we can figure out you can go out of the UK for 4 weeks - but more than that you have to tell them - and it says your PIP maybe affected - but doesn't say will be.

So it would be interesting to hear if you needed a longer break what may happen to your PIP - as the last thing you want to do is get it stopped for going away for a longer break.

Thanks. My concern is, that they might think that if I can go abroad alone, that I do not qualify for PIP, and stop the payments? My point is, that I would not need help abroad because my trigger would not be there, like it is in the UK, where I am afraid to go out. Would they get that?

But will DWP think that if I can go alone on hols that I do not need PIP? WHereas the truth is that being abroad makes it possible to have a normal few days.
