Benefits and Work has been informed by the DWP that the trial of the disability living allowance renewal short form has now been extended and that the size of the form is to increase.

The trial was originally due to finish in February 2010, after which a decision about its continued use was to have been made.

However, the pilot will now continue until Autumn 2010.  In addition, the form is likely to grow from its current four pages to at least eight pages “to capture additional questions our decision-makers asked us to include.”

The DWP also warn that proposed changes to DLA are likely to affect their plans:

“You will have heard and seen the Coalition Government’s budget announcements and commitment to a radical programme of welfare reform. This includes changes to Disability Living Allowance (DLA). This has meant that the DLA and Attendance Allowance (AA) renewal form pilot will, in the future, be considered as part of a much bigger picture of change.”

We will keep members informed as further information becomes available.
