Hi J,
In response to your first two questions the answer is no and no.
With regards to being notified about being paid the Assessment Rate of ESA, yes, you "should" receive written notification.
However, as I find myself telling members all to often nowadays what the DWP "should" do and what they are actually doing is two different matters.

I'm thinking of seeing a solicitor who specialises in welfare rights, not made any arrangements yet but was wondering wether its a good idea.Holding on at the moment in case they change my "zero points" decision.

Hi J,
It can only be your decision on whether to seek the help of a solicitor or not.
Qualified Welfare Rights Advisers/Officers, can be more accomplished in this field, as they specialise in dealing with benefit appeals etc.
See :
Where to get advice?
Your "fit for work " decision could indeed be changed in your favour at the reconsideration stage.
Again, if and indeed when you should seek representation, is upto you, and not really something that I could advise you on.

When you appeal, and that triggers a reconsideration,do they write to you to tell you the result of that reconsideration?
