The self-test worked fine. We believe under PIP my husband will not qualify for mobility as he does not use a wheelchair irrespective of whether or not he could purchase or even use one. Are they suggesting that you have to be in a wheelchair before you are considered disabled enough? The descriptors for PIP as it stands are too narrow and cannot ascertain the extent of disability either physically or mentally. If my husband fails to qualify for mobility he will have to return Motability car. We are rural with no public transport and the car is a lifeline. He won’t be able to access medical services. Could PIP have an impact on the Motability scheme when people have to return their vehicles for not getting enough points? The possible effect will be less call for Motability cars and associated services. Loosing entitlement will cause problems in terms of independence but also because of less to live on and this will in many cases impact on quality of life. If you can pop something in the microwave it seems you won’t qualify. This suggests it is ok for people to live on microwave meals, i.e., processed food when the Government endorses eating healthily and talks about a "fat tax". We fear PIP will be very unfair to those with mental health problems too. PIP is already having an impact on us personally because we are worried, stressed and fearful.

I think we will have to wait and see if the MIDDLE RATE of PIP will qualify as eligible for leasing a Motability vehicle.
If not, a conservative estimate would be that at least 500,000 out of the 600,000 Motability customers would lose their vehicles.
The health/social/financial effects of that would unthinkable.

We sent Motobility an email asking them if they had any idea yet how PIP may impact on them. Will advise when and if we get a response.
