No, he will not be asked about the caring that he does.

I can't see why he can't ask for the Carer Element to be put into payment, doing so will not have any impact on his CA claim, they are entirely separate benefits but when the CA is awarded he need to contact UC immediately as he will then be in an overpayment situation. Basically, he should not spend any CA back payment he receives.

Sorry I don't think I explained properly.
We want to submit the Carer Allowance claim immediately, then as soon as poss we want to submit the UC claim but we don't want the Carers Element of the UC. We want the UC to have the Carers Allowance deducted so that we end up with Carers Allowance and a little bit of Universal Credit(ie UC minus CA). So for this to work, do you think we need to wait for the Carers Allowance to be completely in place before we submit the UC claim, so that when we submit the UC claim they will deduct the Carers Allowance?

If you want to keep it simple then claim the CA and when it is awarded make a claim for UC but he will be losing out on the extra money that UC would pay and the Carers Element although UC can be backdated by a month.

I definitely need to keep it simple, my head is struggling to understand this in this heat!
We want to keep it simple, we don't mind losing a little UC money by claiming it once the CA comes through. The only reason we were thinking about starting the UC claim straight after the CA claim, was because at the moment you can do the ID verifying online rather than attending the job centre with your ID. My concern is that by the time we apply for the UC, is that the government may have opened the job centres with further easing of lockdown. We don't want to be put in a position where my son has to go to the job centre to verify his ID for UC because I may not feel it safe coronavirus wise

Hi Cruella

Even before the lockdown and covid-19, UC claimants could verify their ID on line providing they had prime documents such as a driving licence, passport etc. If you had no prime documents then you would have to see your work coach.

Thanks Gary, do you know whether if you have driving licence but don't have a passport whether you can do the online ID verifying?
